nicholas is fascinated by the processes of producing; by the physical act of making.
his exploration of this is realised in two and three dimensions and his concern for the process of production is visible in the means through which much of his work is made. laborious and time consuming methods are used to draw the viewers attention to act of creating and the importance of this procedure.
concurrently to these process driven techniques nicholas uses his work to express and explore more personal issues. the conceptual starting points for his work can range as much as the materials he uses to produce them. however he incessantly records and documents thoughts, experiences and imagery seeking veracity both visually and conceptually.
nicholas has an obsessive nature and this is integral to his visual language and aesthetic. the system and environment in which his work is produced is considered inherent to the outcome and is meticulously controlled, recorded and documented dependent on his intentions.
his compulsive desire to create is one of the fundamental issues that underpins his life and his practice.
